Maintenance Cost Inkjet

Going to the movies, it is generally done with few expectations for the film, not to be disappointed later. Angels and Demons not invalidate this idea: expected very little of it , and that's exactly what I got.

[This review contains a low dose of spoilers. Have avoided disclosing specifics. If the reader wants to go see the film without being influenced at all, should not read this review.]

In criticizing, I like to weigh the good and bad. Among other things, leads to a more fluid narrative style, with counterpoints and weights. With Angels and Demons , however, feel that this way of writing with a result sarcastic. If I said that the film had good clothes and good scenery but a bad script and a boring argument, the impression is that it would be an absolutely superficial production.

The truth is hard, but without sarcasm, that is. Angels and Demons , filmed in Rome and the Vatican, with the bottom of the death of a pope and a conclave of cardinals, delivers a stunning picture in a tour of the pomp and majesty of the center of the Catholic world a sublime moment for believers. On the other hand, the scenes in the giant particle accelerator, CERN, like those in the Vatican archives, no defined environment, identificatory color of gravitas. The writer's ability to award feelings to places is nil.

I will not spend a lot of regrets to the scientific credibility of the film. You can say, for information, which CERN's mission not produce antimatter, that it requires not mysterious or complicated procedures to be produced, but enough power and therefore a lot of money that antimatter is not an energy source and can not ever be, and it is true that the antimatter annihilate with matter can produce a tremendous explosion, but so far no no way to produce a "bomb" with her laptop. The "God Particle" of spoken of in the film has nothing to do with antimatter, and no one in the Vatican has been concerned that fancy name.

The historical question (yes issue upset the Catholic Church ) is on the other side. The film is fiction and has never promoted any other way, although it is understandable that many viewers have left the cinema quite wrong ideas. The well-known inability of the Catholic Church to tolerate (anything that looks like a) criticism is combined with the lack of sense of humor characteristic of fanatics of all kinds to make Angels & Demons white unmerited accusations that is "anti-Catholic." The truth is that the film leaves too well stop at the Church and its hierarchy. Not even allow the character of Robert Langdon more than a tinge sputtering agnostic to justify their non-Catholic (almost as if to give encouragement to the followers of the apophatic theology), and Catholics in the film, the most rigid and intolerant end up being good.

As for the plot, there is the strange case that is at once too simple and too complicated. The system by which the actors are symbolic clues in the Eternal City is contrived, schematic, a device worthy of a detective story juveniles (and emphasized gestures and exclamations of the same genus by the protagonists). Ill have endless physical and mental resources, and have received all eventualities. Good too, to the point where the elaboradísimo deception can be solved by a professor of religious symbology and physics and also happens to have an amazing knowledge of forensic medicine. With the exception of some obvious pitfalls, everything is in the right place, everything is clean, pointing where it should, everything is predictable. So predictable, so easy is all that tension in Angels and Demons is purely accidental: if the researcher had begun its task 15 minutes before, all painstakingly articulated criminal plot would have collapsed.

unlikely and similar issues hanging infinitesimal detail throughout the film, and the end does nothing but loop the loop. Angels and Demons is a cumbersome Rube Goldberg machine whose final product is boring and trivial: the bad guys are defeated at the last minute and literally, there is nothing new under the sun.

Angels and Demons On The Beach

Continuing reviews of dystopian films, now I come to count on On the Beach ("The Beach"), a film of 1959, black and white, with guest appearances of Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner and Fred Astaire .

In port, the main characters.

On the Beach is a movie we would call pre-and post-apocalyptic. The Apocalypse (total nuclear war) has already occurred, but their effects have yet end to protagonists. Commander Dwight Lionel Towers, the U.S. nuclear submarine USS Sawfish , up to Australia to escape complete destruction that has befallen the northern hemisphere, where cities were not bombed are poisoned by radiation. Radioactive particles floating in the atmosphere being carried by the wind, inexorably, to the south. When they get there, the last remains of the human species on Earth will die.

the meantime, however, Australians welcome the survivors who arrive by sea, providing a place to stand for a few months. The next (and last) mission of the USS Sawfish will sail back north and find the source of a distress signal that part of San Francisco, where there should be no one alive.

While the crew rests for a few days ashore, the commander knows Towers Moira Davidson a mature woman who is dedicated to seduce him for fun, but eventually falls for him. Towers must accept that his wife and children, who were in the United States have died. Julian Osborne, a former love Moira, racer scientific and leisure, then depart with Towers on the submarine.

Dwight and Moira, on the beach.

Amid this story we have also the young lieutenant Peter Holmes and his wife, Mary, who refuses to accept the fact that her husband should go on a mission and might not arrive in time to see her again woman and her young daughter.

Peter confronts Mary with the truth.

The expedition to San Francisco again without the desired results. Towers come back just in time to say goodbye to his love, and Osborne will be pleased to take the final Grand Prix of Australia in his Ferrari.

Research in San Francisco.

Near the end, the government began distributing free suicide pills, so that citizens who so desire to end their lives without suffering the terrible effects of radiation poisoning.

people queuing to get their pills.

the end I will not tell, but it is not surprising.

On the Beach is a very good movie. That could be filmed at the height of the Cold War, painting a realistic picture as the results of a nuclear war and the crazy arms race, and without a single reference or anti-patriotic, is in itself an achievement. The stories are interwoven in the plot are good, do not fall into melodrama or chill. The picture is so good that the lack of color is not strange at all, and special effects are few and only those necessary. There are no flashbacks or developments.

On the Beach is linear, and that is their strength, quite apart from the surprise price and false emotion contained a story require less. From the beginning you know that everything is very wrong in the world and can only get worse, one can see that love and redemption of the characters are only an oasis, the last spark of vitality (not of hope) of the human race.
